Girlfriend Getaway at Spa1905

By Jill Rohrbach

Obviously, the most important aspect of a successful girls weekend is the girlfriends themselves. The friendships are what make the fun.

But, picking the right destination for that fun can add up big. That’s why my group of besties chose Eureka Springs for a recent weekend getaway.

The 1905 Basin Park Hotel became our basecamp. We rolled into town on a Friday afternoon and checked into the Spa Collection Rooms. These three rooms with king size beds, located inside the hotel’s spa wing, are a perfect choice for a small group of women.

We booked in advance the last spa appointments for the day at Spa1905, which helped wash away the work week and put us right into vacation mode. With the spa then closed, that meant we pretty much had that wing of the second floor to ourselves.

Other guests can access that hallway leading to the spa courtyard, but few people did during our stay. The spa deck has a hot tub, fire pit and lots of lounge chairs and we took full advantage of the amenities.

We also loved the special perks that come with booking the Spa Collection Rooms, which include exclusive late-night access to the spa deck, robes and slippers that we lived in all weekend, feather bed toppers, high-end linens, and complimentary gourmet coffee delivered to our rooms each morning.

One on our rooms was a little bigger than the others and we immediately made it into the “party” room, setting up snack trays we brought with us along with various beverage options. In other words, there were a few bottles of champagne uncorked in celebration of our friendships.

One benefit of staying at the Basin Park Hotel is that it is right in the middle of the historic district next to the iconic Basin Spring Park. Just steps from the hotel doors are shops, restaurants, bars, historic springs, Victorian architecture, and hidden hiking paths. Yet, the first night we decided to keep things simple by staying inside the hotel for the evening. We put our name on the list for a table at The Balcony Restaurant and hit Jack Rabbett’s Whisky Bar next door while we waited.

Saturday started with an amazing brunch at Mud Street Cafe. Then, we hit the streets to do a little shopping. We struck gold at Christopher’s, where every one of us bought something – purses, shoes, earrings, clothes, and kimono hair clips. We took our goods back to the hotel, just across the street, and some of us even put on our new clothes or changed out purses. Then we were off again, grabbing beverages at Missy’s White Rabbit before wandering the streets some more.

Originally, we said we were going to hike one of the many trails in the area, but decided walking the town was perfect for the day.

We did have lofty goals of eating dinner at some of the new restaurants in town that we had never been to or at an old favorite — Grotto, Le Stick, Local Flavor, and Stonehouse Wine Bar — but we didn’t plan ahead. So, these locations were either booked with reservations, had late reservations we didn’t want or were closed for the winter break. Not wanting our evening to be dictated by time, when we were hungry we strolled down to Amigo’s, a great Mexican restaurant that was fairly full but able to seat us immediately. We’re always happy with cheese dip in front of us, but if your girlfriends are looking for more of a fine dining experience, you can call restaurants for reservations in advance or get on a wait list.

We spent the rest of the evening in the hot tub, around the fire pit or in our party room laughing so hard we cried. Isn’t it funny how a single hotel room can be become the most magical place on earth with your girlfriends telling stories and joking around?

The majority of our final morning was spent at Eureka Springs Coffee House, which we highly recommend. Between sips of coffee and bites of avocado toast, grit bowls, or breakfast sliders, we laughed again at our “remember last night” stories that were all the funnier in the light of day.

Thanks for the memories Eureka. We will be back for more.

3 Reasons to Stay at Basin Park Hotel

The 1905 Basin Park Hotel makes the perfect basecamp for a Eureka Springs getaway. The tallest building in the town, the hotel is a historical landmark that continues to hold great allure today. Since it opened in 1905, it has been an integral part in drawing thousands of visitors seeking renewed health, leisure and fun.

Whether looking to relax or enjoy the nightlife, here are three reasons to choose Basin Park Hotel.

  1. Self-contained fun. Not that you would, but if you decided never to step foot outside of the hotel it has everything you need for a perfect weekend – spa, restaurant, bar, game room, deck with hot tub and fire pit, ghost tours, and other events.
  2. Close to the action. In the heart of the historic district, Basin Spring Hotel is in the middle of it all. Basin Spring Park is next door. The streets outside the hotel are lined with restaurants, bars, art galleries and more than 100 locally owned shops. Plus, steps away is The Auditorium, an awesome concert venue.
  3. Walkable history and art. Step outside the front door to streets that lead past historic springs, amazing architecture, art sculptures and hidden paths through the woods that await discovery.

The “New” Basin Park Hotel” Has Reopened in Downtown Eureka Springs

Basin Park Hotel

Everything that has happened in the past three months, all has not been bad for the Eureka Springs tourism industry.  With repurposed employees and construction teams allowed to continue to work, these past many weeks have seen great productivity as the Basin Park Hotel.  This landmark hotel has been diligently cleaned, painted and upgraded.  The result is the emergence of a “new” 1905 Basin Park Hotel focused around guest experiences, services and an upgraded quality of product.  The Basin Park, as the only 24-hour downtown property with bell service, shuttle service, a resort host, hotel security, a restaurant, a spa, two bars and guaranteed parking, can once again step into its century-old role as “the Centerpiece of Main Street Eureka Springs”.

“Key to our redevelopment were such projects as deep cleaning, repainting and upgrading of our nightly lodging venues including the addition of several two-bedroom suites,” explained General Manager Jack Moyer.  “These new suites offer not only a bedroom on either side but an expanded common area and the inclusion of a soaking tub and walk-in shower. It should be noted that the Basin Park Hotel now has 26 suites.”

Moyer went on to explain additional completed hotel projects include the expansion of Spa1905.  Added were highly comfortable and sharply designed spa suites for guests who want to immerse themselves into the spa experience.  Guests who stay in a spa suite enjoy added service and amenities, exclusive outdoor hot tub access and are just footsteps away from the plethora of services and treatments that Spa1905 offers.  Located just outside the spa on the same floor is the magnificent new outdoor gathering space. This new spa deck sits aside a limestone bluff and includes an outdoor hot tub, fire pit and patio furnishings with only the sky overhead.   A totally new addition to Eureka Springs’ downtown scene is Jack Rabbett’s Whisky Bar offering the casual atmosphere of a living room featuring plush, comfortable seating; a fireplace; pool tables; and walls of big screen televisions.  This downtown getaway is located just down the hallway from the highly popular Balcony Restaurant & Bar, also being fully reintroduced, with its alfresco seating that overlooks downtown on one side and Basin Spring Park on the other.

“We have also added a resort host, seated in the lobby, to guide guests to everything fun and exciting to see and do in Eureka Springs plus introducing hotel guests to the new well-developed list of daily resort programming,” added Moyer, “which includes such activities as whisky tastings in Jack Rabbett’s, theater-style showing of movies, and a morning stretch on the roof.  Not many hotels around the country allow guests to welcome the day from their rooftop.”

The paranormal aspect of the 1905 Basin Park Hotel has not been overlooked.  In development and soon to be offered to both hotel guests and visitors to Eureka Springs, is an experience that includes not only hearing hotel tales that occurred inside the limestone and pink dolomite walls of this historic structure but patrons will also be able to partake in a unique paranormal investigation that will extend “from the roof to the depths of the hidden cave”.  Ticketing for this adventure is available through

“Safety and compliant protocols will continue as suggested by the Arkansas Department of Health as we fully open for business,” concluded Moyer.

Spa1905, in expanding its services and joining the 1886 Crescent Hotel’s New Moon Spa as the only Aveda spas and salons in the greater Eureka Springs area is sure to meet those customer desires” stated Jack Moyer vice president and general manager of the Crescent and Basin Park Hotels.

Highlighting those expanded services will be a full menu of day spa services with focus on the Aveda TM Stress Fix and Chakra Balance massages.JMM_5150-Edit  Other services and amenities for Spa1905 will include an expansive Aveda retail center, sun deck with sauna and hot tub, a rain bar for a relaxing finish to mud wraps and exfoliations, and a continued emphasis on duet services for couples.

The new Aveda salon will be offering guests and local residents manicures, pedicures and hair styling.  However, the addition of the sought after Aveda product line will soon bring all Aveda salon services, each reflecting strict brand standards, to the hotel’s second floor including hair coloring.  The retail center will carry Aveda hair and skin products from opening.

“Managing Spa1905 will be Kimberly Roberts,” Moyer noted.  “Kim, who currently manages our New Moon Spa, has been promoted to the newly created post of Director of Spas, reflecting a core value of our hotels: Build the Individual.  Kim has been with our hotels for more than 15 years and is a preeminent expert in Aveda and its brand expectations.”  Daily operations will be supported by assistant director, Haley Franklin.2015-06-23 09.27.35
