The Mystical Arts of Tibet-July 14, 15, 16
“The Creation of the Healing Mandala”
For the past 16 years, the Mystical Arts Monks of Tibet have traveled the globe performing the sacred art of the Mandala Sand Painting. On July 14th, 15th and 16th this special event will take place in Eureka Springs at the Basin Park Hotel’s Barefoot Ballroom. Using millions of grains of colored sand, the monks will create an elaborate and ancient Healing Medicine Sand Mandala. Each day over a 3 day period, the community is invited from 9am until 12 noon and 2pm until 5pm, to watch the monks build a sand mandala that has been recreated for over 2500 years. When the sand painting is complete, the monks deliberately sweep away the painting, offering half the sand to the community members who are there at the closing ceremony and then offering the other half of the sand to the earth. During the day, talks, a children’s mandala table and other events are planned. There will also be a Dharma Store where various items can be purchased.
This special and sacred event is being brought to Eureka Springs as a gift by the Venerable Geshe Thupten Dorjee and the Tibetan Cultural Institute of Arkansas of Fayetteville. Special Thanks to the Basin Park Hotel for hosting the event in the Barefoot Ballroom, The Joy Motel for hosting the Monks and The Angler Inn and Geraldo’s Pizza, New Delhi Café and Mud Street Café for offering food. Donations are gratefully accepted but not required.
